Many people especially women in particular are afraid of taking the big step of growing their natural dreadlocks. We have a fear that it won’t look right on us and on top of that we don’t know where to start or how to start dreadlocks. There are about over ten different techniques on how to start your lovely locks but there is a list of three techniques that are the most popular in 2010. Third on the list requires you to do little to nothing to start growing strong dreadlocks and it’s… the “Organic” method. Second on the list is a latch hook process also known as the “Interlocking” method. Most importantly, the “Palm Roll” method that requires you to twist your hair took the number one spot on the list.
To begin with, the “Organic” method is the easiest way to start locking your hair. You do NOTHING! All that is required of you to do is to wash your hair and leave it. Your hair will begin to matte and lock on its own forming different sizes and dimensions of you dreadlocks. I know you’re thinking…How is that going to look on me? Okay…a great example is Lauryn Hill or…Bob Marley. The best part of doing the “Organic” method it’s low maintenance and means more money in your pockets.
Secondly if you are looking into the “Interlocking” method to start your locks then you have made a wise decision. Interlocking is really a latch hook method that at most requires a salon professional or a personal loctician to get stunning desirable result. A salon professional will part your hair into neat sections of small to large boxes depending on the size you want. Then for each individual part or section of your hair your loctician will take a latch hook tool (used to crochet yarn) and basically crochet your locks. A popular example of the “Interlocking” method is Sisterlocks. Now, you can do this process on your own but it will be very time consuming. However, look on the bright side the “Interlocking” method stays neater and looking fresh about two weeks longer than the other methods. And the best part about this method is that you don’t have to worry about your locks falling apart after a quick splash at the pool.
Finally the number one way to start your lovely locks that gives the most desirable look is the “Palm Roll” method. You can basically use your hands and/or a comb to twist your hair. Similar to the “Interlocking” method you or a salon professional would part your hair into neat sections of small to large boxes and twist each part using some type of holding gel to keep the locks in place. Like the “Organic” method, the “Palm Roll” method is very easy to maintain.
“In essence you’re really getting the best of ALL worlds doing the “Palm Roll” method because it’s simple, takes less time and it’s stunning.”
So explore these great options and pick one that works best for you. When considering these three ways to locking your hair keep in mind that just like straightening or processing hair for popular and elaborate hair styles your dreadlocks needs the same amount of time and care for your hair to grow healthy and look beautiful. So fit some time into your busy schedule to take care of you and take good care of your lovely locks.
